Toben, I continue to appreciate your posts so much. Sometimes I take out a little excerpt and include it in my Facebook update so that some of your and Joanne's Whitworth friends can keep up with her recovery. Su Chism asked me about Joanne the other day, and it turned out that she didn't know about J.'s stroke. She asked that I send along her very best wishes, and I'm doing that now. Still holding Joanne in our thoughts and prayers and rejoicing with you in her progress. Hang in there; it looks as if your "new normal" may be much, much better than you expected at one time. Your steadfast, faithful love for Joanne, for your girls, and for God is an inspiration.

Just lovely, Toben. I'm so glad that Joanne is stable and that you are feeling at peace. It sounds as if your girls are adjusting too, and I'm sure that will ease your worries and make it possible for you to keep going. I'm pretty sure that's all you need to do right now (though that's quite a lot): Keep going, keep caring for Joanne and your girls, and let God love and care for you. I continue to pray, and I'll be asking my older granddaughter, Kylie, who's five, to remember you in her prayers, as well. She's a first-class pray-er, and she'll put her little heart into every word. God bless you and all three of your girls. (And as the mother of a grown-up son who has two wonderful little girls, I want to ask God to bless Joanne's parents, too; I can't imagine what they're feeling right now.)

Toben, you, Joanne and I worked together in the Lindaman Center at Whitworth a long time ago. When I saw Tad Wisenor's message about Joanne's stroke, I couldn't believe that such a young, vital wife and mom -- one who has pursued the best of both those callings -- had been so stricken. Please know that many people at Whitworth are praying for Joanne's healing and for you and your daughters to be able to deal with everything that comes your way. You are so obviously in love with your wife and your girls, and I'm sure that strengthens you -- but also brings you incredible pain -- as you live through this terrible time. Just wanted you to know that I, too, am praying for you, asking God again and again to bring you and your girls comfort and strength and to bring your beloved Joanne back to you. Rest well, and know that you are in hearts all across the country, as well as in God's heart, tonight and in the days to come.
