Simple words serve as both the title and inspiration behind the expeditions, the images and moments that bring our passion for exploration to life. We are excited to share with you this call to return to the mountains that was inspired by everyone who has had a hand in shaping The North Face brand over the last 45 years. Our passion for exploration and the outdoors fueled our thinking and thankfully we’ve never veered away from this inspiration. Never Stop Exploring is as prevalent today as it was when we built our first tent. Over the next month or so,... Continue reading

October 1st marked one of the most awesome days of my life- and no, it was not because the government shut down. It's actually the day that I visited Washington DC personally, and got to be a voice supporting one of the things I care most: our environment. Protect Our Winters (also known as POW) is an organization dedicated to uniting and actively engaging the global snow sports community to lead the fight against climate change. POW organized a DC trip with top snowsports athletes- Olympians, film skiers and snowboarders, and world renowned mountaineers (including fellow North Face athlete and... Continue reading

As we watched the news of the flooding in Colorado we knew immediately we needed to support our outdoor community. That's when we heard about the efforts of the boulder mudslingers, a group of volunteers who sprang up “out of the mud” after the recent Boulder flood. The Mudslingers went on to create Donate Boulder to help connect people who want to help with those in need. Donate Boulder has been a force in the flood recovery and was able to organize a mass of volunteers in the Boulder community to literally dig the mud out of hundreds of homes... Continue reading

Start of The North Face Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc. Photo Credit: Alo Belluscio/The North Face As I sit down to write about The North Face Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc 2013 (UTMB) I instantly begin to smile. The elation I felt during and after the race seem too good to be true. Of course, I have a selective memory in regards to racing. If things go moderately well I tend to forget the low points. But there are always low points. Being able to minimize and ride through the darker moments is always a priority. It doesn't always work... Continue reading

This year’s The North Face Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc® (UTMB®) will stand out from the many that have been, and maybe even those to come. Not only because it’s been the first one since 3 years that hasn’t been pestered by bad weather or course shortenings – perfectly blue skies blessed this year’s event – but also because Rory Bosio’s record-breaking performance will be one to remember, as was Xavier Thevenard’s. Halfway through the competition things had taken quite an ugly turn for many of The North Face® team’s athletes. Sebastien Chaigneau, Helen Cospolich, Mike Wolfe and Zigor Iturrieta all... With broken ribs and a stress fracture of the foot, Lizzy had to shift the focus in her training races from finishing first to simply getting better. Here is what she ad to say about it: “Lines. The ones that we cross and the ones that we don't. The start line of the 2013 UTMB is one line that I won't cross this year. Sometimes life throws you a challenge that... Continue reading

The sand was everywhere. Red, silty and windblown into every crevice of everything. But as gritty as it felt against our dry dusted skin, we were psyched to be there. Matt, Alex and myself have spent many years cutting our teeth climbing parallel cracked cliffs and towers surrounding the Canyonlands of Utah. Even though we were exploring new parts of Canyonlands by floating down the Green River, tapping into the endless first ascent potential, it felt like home. Daniel, on the other hand, was a fish out of water in this dry alien landscape. For him, standing at the base... Continue reading

Don’t get me wrong, I love Indian Creek. I’ve been going there for a lot of years. I love the climbing, the people - the place. But, as is the case with so many classic destinations, it’s gotten comfortable for me. Maybe too comfortable. I was immediately intrigued when Alex Honnold asked if I wanted to join him on a boating and climbing trip down the Green River, where he promised Indian Creek sandstone and splitter cracks—alongside exploration, first ascents, choss, and most notably, Daniel Woods taking his first plunge into traditional climbing. This would have been enough, so I... Continue reading
