Just as a heads up, we're moving to a new server today. Same address, same blog, same everything. In *theory* this should be transparent to you and if you subscribe via RSS or email, then all *should* be transparent to you. In theory. In the event of any trouble, just go direct to www.celiacbites.com in a day or so and re-subscribe. Thanks for your patience! Continue reading

Captain Morgans Parrot Bay Coconut Rum Is It Gluten Free? ___ Yes! ___ No! ___ I'm afraid to find out! This one has proven to be surprisingly problematic for me. Celiac.com has quite a bit of conflicting information and my favorite Celiac / Gluten free database, Clan Thompson, has not yet added this one to their list. So I sucked it up and contacted the company. You know from my previous posts how onerous a process it can be to speak to the legal minions. Post your answer and insights in the comments below and I'll add my findings in... Continue reading

Funny you should mention UDI's! We just found it at out grocery store last week and I tried a loaf of bread and their bagels. Both are awesome! Nice sourdough taste to the regular bread and great texture and flavor for the bagels. Really good stuff!

I hate going to restaurants. Especially when I'm traveling on business. There you are with a bunch of peers from the office, partners, or customers and you get to interrupt the order taking process with a 17 minute grilling of the server. Are your steaks marinated? What else do you cook on the grill? Am I going to die if I eat here? What else is on the plate? Onion straws, fried items, sauces, condensed gluten dust? Do you have any reason to want to harm me? How exactly are your mashed potatoes prepared? Is any pan coating spray used... Continue reading

Yumm! Let me know and maybe we can post something here! On the Senseo issue, a fellow sufferer just posted a link to new and improved Senseo pod filters. I have not tried them yet but intend to shortly - you may want to check it out - see the last comment at: http://www.celiacbites.com/2009/03/the-case-of-the-walking-glutonia.html

Thanks for the great tip and link! I tried some all plastic contraption a while back that did not work at all. This appears to me more like a "real" filter and I am anxious to try one! I have to admit the Senseo is pretty handy for that random cup of coffee sometimes :-)

Thanks! Just remember that generic drugs are manufactured by about 612 different companies around the world and that pharmacies tend to change suppliers without notice! On the plus side, I have found almost every time I check that drug manufacturers are pretty good (from my perspective anyway) about not using wheat based starches. Most of the ones that I have called use corn based fillers. Good luck out there!

Dann I couldn't agree more! I myself have a Single Six in .22LR and it's the first one I take out to teach a new shooter, adult or junior! Since I posted this, she is now all worked up about an FN 5-7 though... (She's plenty experienced) I like the price tag of the Bearcat a lot better :-)
