Well, it's a funny ould life, isn't it? I am not weighed down with grief exactly, it's more like it's constantly consuming a small percentage of my RAM and bonhomie. At this time of the year, predictably enough, I'm more... Continue reading

From the forest that my father planted, under whose shade he knew he'd never sit. A good Da visiting place. If the planning permission can be finagled, we plan to convert the stables in my Ma's house into a wee... Continue reading

Life goes on. Wednesday the 20th September 2017, after a wet walk and a crowded bus ride into town, we formally finalised our adoption of Jay. It, weirdly enough, was in a office centre for business high-flyers, with a fancy... Continue reading

The funeral went well, I think, as much as it could. Brother gave a serious and funny talk about our father, all about his (many) misadventures and lifelong losing battle with implements, machines and tools. He couldn't change a plug,... Continue reading

I’ve never been a lover of the telephone, have you? Ever since I answered the phone when I was 12 to my distraught aunt - she’d found my uncle collapsed after a heart attack. No, it’s reserved for arrangements, and... Continue reading

Thanks VV - there is that house in Kerry, that is true, but it needs very much work and is the very opposite of toddler friendly. Pity! One day, maybe. The idea of visiting one day is nice, when Jay is a bit bigger. I'd love to see the tulips! But for the moment, with my Dad unwell, (he is in hospital), it's not going to happen. xxx

This about sums it up. Here's a real first world problem: I'm getting a bit envious of people who have bigger houses. It seems I have become petty bourgeois, but we are quite cramped in our house. Me, shimmying through... Continue reading

Arg, everyone, we've been having an interesting time of it. We missed our court date (for reasons I will moan about in a later post), Jay is having a prolonged sleep regression where he wakes four or five times a... Continue reading

These posts are getting so compressed. Soon enough, I fear, it'll be a two line paragraph summing up a whole year. And yet, I persist in my half-arsed blogging because I love rereading this wonky, holey record, scribbled down in... Continue reading

Twangy is Santa! Ah. I have more to say about Jay, of course, and what a says is true: I should write it down now before I forget it all. Even now, certain things have been lost in time -... Continue reading

Ah, my lovely bunny and a. GROUP HUG. I will write more, thank you, a. You have given me the bit of encouragement I needed. There is more, indeed, which I should record before it's lost for all time. [Like (note to self): Beautiful Tony, the physio, the question of race.] bunny! Thank you for commenting. Nodding at your comments on abortion - yes - if they really really wanted to reduce the numbers of abortions. (versus DISPLACING them to the UK, as is our hypocrisy here) wouldn't they find ways to support mothers and children, I always think? It seems like once they're born, the interest in protecting their rights suddenly palls. All bets are off once they draw breath. I don't know. Ack, I say. Honesty compels me to say that the BAA and ACK were one-offs. He does say EYE though. I feel he will be a talker, like his Da. The two of them can explain everything to each other, (I dream) and I can have a nice lie-down. Bun bun sounds a marvel! SHE READS ON HER OWN. WUNDERKINDER. LOVE.

How do single parents do it? HOW, HOW, and often with multiple kids? [Twangy faints from sheer amazement]. The JB has been away for THREE nights eating bonbons in a bubble bath (academic conference, my eye, he's not fooling me)... Continue reading

Thank you, a. Well said! You should revive your blog. :-) The JB is having MUCHO fun with Jay at the moment. It's like he hit his stride, or Jay got more interactive, or maybe all the (nutty) games and songs bonded them, I don't know, but suddenly Jay shrieks with excitement when he sees Dada coming. [Heartmelt]. He (the JB) is a little better at the playing, I think, and I am a little better at the calming and being patient in the middle of the night. Of course it helps a lot that he doesn't have any teaching because of this research thing he won. Life isn't too hard for him just now, to be honest, JMHO.

Hmm, Valery, you're right. I poked around in the layout but not quite sure how to make the photos appear again, Sorry, I forgot to tell you how the feeding was going. Really well, he likes vegetables more than fruit, weirdly. Those are received with a disappointed expression, like how could I, really, this again? He loves his porridge and sweet potato and everything else. We have tentatively put his name down for a school but it (apparently) is not really necessary to at this stage. The tricky bit is deciding which flavour of school to go with - but this I'll have to get to another time. I wish I could tell previous me to hang on, not be cheerful, that everything would work out. Not the way things are though.. Hope the funk passes sharpish, VV!

Yes bunny! The remaining parent should ONLY REPORT SERIOUS things, the like of which the travelling parent would consider returning for! OTHERWISE WHAT'S THE POINT. Sigh. Thanks, all. The sweet potato was a moderate success, Val. Courgette a bit less, pear a bit more. On the whole, solids are being well received. We are having a growth spurt though, with mucho waking up at night, so the STTN thing is (temporarily I HOPE) suspended. Arg. On a brighter note, we are indeed having some beautiful Autumn weather. I do love this back to school time, having once been That Kind Of Kid. Lap it up, folks, for winter is on its way.

Ah, bunny! So your spouse spends the evening downstairs eating bon bons too! I mean he says he's working on papers, but what does he take me for, really? I am deeply impressed that you go between THREE young people all at different stages. It is an everyday miracle, as far as I am concerned. Tanguerramama! Thank you! I wish you many many good things too. All the good things for my lovely lovely readers! Well! I am just going to press publish and hope that made sense. I have been OUT, people, and I drank a MARTINI.
Thanks a, for not leaving me stuck out on the limb alone! I mean, I am sorry The Meaning of Marriage escapes you too, but on the other hand, so glad I'm not the only one. And yes, to being as bad as each other! The JB and I are EXACTLY that. Sigh. I mean, I don't know if that's better or worse than not being well matched in badness? I would certainly hate to be the worse-behaved one. Blimey, being stuck with a saint? No, thanks. Being the saint would be a tremendous pain too, what with the martyrdom and being burnt at the stake. Hmm. A conundrum. Gin and cake for all!

Thank you for this, Anne, I've already been referring to that story when I feel the need to judge a parent. How totally fascinating. I must read that book some day, when I take up books again. Which will happen, I presume.
