Larry Gates, KDP Chairman just sent out an email saying that Kansas will get paid and blamed GOP manuevering for trying not to pay Kansasians.
Kansas Suspends Refunds
FYI. I just saw in this article where the state of Kansas suspended paying people their income tax refunds & may not pay there employees on time.
Tim-- thanks for reading this book. biggest point I got was that parents need to start very early talking about LOVE and Marriage. Children are a heritage to the Lord. The never belonged to us. It's hard to separate parenting from that child being an individual, but that's how it is. It reminds me very much of the command to teach our children daily and constantly God's word... somehow we skip over selling them on God's love story for them. They have to be sold on it before they hit the teen years. We have to be ahead of the cultural curve because the world is just too good at selling them a lie. Again, thanks for your feedback.
Teaching True Love to a Sex-at-13 Generation
I read this book on Monday: Teaching True Love to a Sex-at-13 Generation. An EXCELLENT resource. Here are 2 interesting quotes I found while reading this book: "The younger generation needs a sweeter song. A God-built romance isn't merely a "moral version" of the culture's mediocre ...
I heard and exerpt from a sermom: everytime you celebrate a birthday, you are really celebrating the day two people had sex. he he.
Web Bonus - God Loves Sex
Yesterday was the kickoff of our February '09 series called "Love & Sex," where we are taking on a subject that the church has traditionally been silent on, even though God is not. Yesterday's topic was "God Loves Sex." Here are a few thoughts from week 1. Touchy Subject? -- I've been asked...
dude... you are sounding worn down. Get the creature comforts you need to sleep on the plane ride home. Going is always so much easier than returning. Pillow, blanket, neck ring, etc. Be safe. Can't wait to hear you break down the details of the trip. DO NOT FORGET TO RETURN WITH PASTRIES.
Turkey Leg
We're getting close to winding up the Turkish leg of our trip through. Here are a few random, sleep-deprived thoughts: You know when you realize you are on a whirlwind tour? When you start waking up in hotels not knowing what city you're in. An update on my roommate: He's an amazing reposi...
come on with the details! blow us away already!
Turkish Stir
I don't even know how to put into words what's going on inside me tonight. God is stirring all kinds of things & thots in my heart. Started off the morning with another rich time with God. Flagged my thot-of-the-day in my journal (i.e. the 1 thot from today's reading to keep thinking about; ...
I prefer vs in this forum... was that why the question mark? hey.. I'm even willing to chip in the cost of pastries! "Sweet fellowship." he he... sounds like a great way to make sure we all get our hearts right so we can partake!
Whirlwhind Highway/Meeting Day
Hey, guys. Awesome day today. Spent about 8 hours in the car today traveling to various chat sessions. And I am shot!!! It was so incredibly instructive, though, and helpful and exciting. Long hours of asking questions, hearing people's hearts, diving neck-deep into topics, & dreaming about...
Holy cizow!
Iraqi Playground
We left Iraq yesterday after having the chance to visit a local Yazidi village called Sharia where children were going NUTS enjoying a year-old playground donated to the city by generous Christians from the U.S. The city of 6000-9000 is a "collective" -- a city of people that was created whe...
Is there some reason why we can't have a pastry plate for communion ;] ?

Face Time with the Locals
Today was a great day. First off let me show you where I am in this part of the trip. The first picture is of the sign we saw crossing the border into this country. Before anyone freaks, the area I'm in is hugely stable, very safe, & has incredible gratitude toward the U.S. In fact, I was t...

Tim, my heart breaks over this issue. My ear is on the ground so to speak and I've been lucky with the honesty my teens have shared with me (dude, I'm using a code name for this post). The rules have changed. Girls are not only not valuded by boys, but worse, they are not valued by themselves. Sex among teens is the norm, not the exeption and the stastics aren't different inside the church. Multiple partners is the norm. Sex before relationship is the norm. Girls "performing" is the norm. At no time is there less than 20 girls pregnant in our high school--it's not hidden, or "taken care of" as much here as in other schools. The love of women is all but dead. I beat my head against the wall trying to figure out why girls are at my house when I don't know their parents and they don't know me, my values, my rules...etc. I find myself parenting children that aren't mine but happen to pass my threshold. This started in the SEVENTH GRADE. That's when I started dealing with "teens" having sex. SEVENTH GRADE!! Please read Teaching True Love to a Sex at Thirteen Generation by Eric and Leslie Ludy. I read it thinking this can't be true, but when I asked my kids, my heart broke when they confirmed IT IS ALL TRUE. We can't afford to turn a blind eye to what is happening to the value of young women. WHERE ARE FATHERS????
Love & Sex Brainstorm
Awesome day today! I had the chance to spend 2 hours with some creative & engaged people who were getting serious about talking sex. We were brainstorming on our Love & Sex series coming in February. It was a great cross-section of our church, from brand new people to long-time Gracers; from ...
Girls are RUTHLESS!!
Basketball Reflections
This weekend, I coached my son's 4th grade basketball game and my daughter's 2nd grade basketball game. I also played on a Grace basketball team. Here are some things that I think I think: I love basketball. In my game, I found I can get up & down the floor with anyone (even at the ripe old...
my saved brother-in-laws tragic death 3 years ago left my sister in unimaginable pain. Today, she is engaged to a Christian man that has both she and MY MOM attending a bible believing church. At the time I could not have conceived that God was using this great mans death to make a way for my sister to come to Christ.
Web Bonus - How Can God Let Bad Things Happen?
We just finished the 3rd week of our January '09 series called "Uncertain," where we asked people what topics we should cover: the biggest "uncertainties" our world is facing. I thought yesterday went awesome. We talked about "How can a good God let bad things happen?" We all know that these...
Hey... I had something similar growing up. It snapped around the ankles and wrists... I looooved it. But my feet were always cold.
The Most Ridiculous Purchase
This has to be the most ridiculous purchase since the pet rock...The Snuggie. It's a cheap, overpriced, swatch of felt that makes you look like a badly dressed monk. And it doesn't help that they give you a book light either!!! :-)
Someone is doing a great job parenting! Great essay Jonathan!
Web Bonus - Why I Exist? (Part 3)
I received the following email & letter from Jonathan. He's a student in our high school ministry, a long-time Gracer, and a backstage volunteer during our weekend services. He emailed me last Wednesday, after last weekend's topic, "Why do I exist?" Here's his email: "Re: Meaning of Life E...

Hey Tim-- Just a question. Will you go back to preaching verse by verse at any time? I've always found that I learn more and learned how to study my bible more by verse by verse teachings. I have to admit, the handouts have made me a bit bible lazy.
Web Bonus - What's This World Coming To?
We're in our January '09 weekend series called "Uncertain," where we asked you what our topics should be: the biggest "uncertainties" our world is facing. Our topic yesterday was "What's this world coming to?" Like Drinking from a Fire Hose -- Every week, we pray, & discuss, & debate about w...
Look how pretty we all are on Sunday with our pretty Sunday smiles. Everyone as happy as can be. We're all a mess--why does it feel like we should suppress it and hide it from others? As if our imperfections invalidate our ability to minster to others? Our imperfections are the reasons why we can minister to others, they are why we need God. We are a living organism, as you said, and all parts of the body need care-taking. Ministering to others does not mean that you don't live with your own oxen. Can you preach next Sunday in some dirty clothes and be all smelly--maybe with some ox dung on you?
Ministry is Messy
About the middle of last week, my mind started spinning on another topic that I would revisit day after day. Sometimes I'd see it. Sometimes it would pop-up in a discussion. Sometimes I'd live it. God was pointing it out. It's this thought: Ministry is messy. Getting involved in people's...
Tim--such awesome points in Psalms. Our struggles seem so huge to us until compared to those in the bible. Best point after that is that God wants to end these huge struggles for us--it doesn't matter that they aren't as severe as someone else's. He only asks one thing--turn to him. Seems easy, but the rich man walked away from Jesus knowing that he was Christ--how many of us have turned away and are trying to overcome our personal battles "personally?" Often the hardest thing to do is give God all control. It even sounds like God is pleading with Israel to turn to them so He can end their pain. How many of us need to give up control and turn to God? I want those promised blessings! Thank you for this reminder.
Time in the Psalms
I'm sitting here in my office right after my quiet time with God, looking out at the corner of 159th & Antioch. Let me just say this: You do not want to be in that traffic jam right now. :-) There is a solid line of cars as far as the eye can see. I think the traffic backs up before the st...
Ugh. Got the message loud and clear. So my question is NOW WHAT? I knew I was not in God's will, but I 'wanted it' so I did everything I could to label it God's will and ignore the flashing signs, and as I realized after Sunday's message, also ignored that God may have "stepped back" knowing that I knew better. I should have lived by the faith that I already knew. I can't undo what I've done. So tell me, now what?
Reel Faith - Direction
Tomorrow, we continue our new series called "Reel Faith." There is a reason that great epics (written or filmed) strike a chord in our souls...in my soul. God designed us to play a significant role in His epic, in His-story (history), in His kingdom (the kingdom of God). Tomorrow's topic is "...
