Natural wines have changed my life long before I even knew the term "natural wine." About a year after opening my wine store in 1998 I had the opportunity to taste some natural wines--Yvon Metras, Marcel Lapierre, Jean Foillard, Clos Roche Blanche, Michel Guignier, Catherine & Pierre Breton--not only did their flavors greatly appealed to me but their prices were cheaper than the more hyped-up labels. From then on I realized that many of the best wines are also some of the most affordable and are made by individuals who strive to make wines that are truly a product of the soil, without chemicals and manipulation. This belief changed how I buy and drink wines. Today we are fortunate that there are more producers of natural wines compared to 15 years ago. And I'm glad their wines continue to be "table wines" in the true sense of the term--affordable enough to drink everyday and as healthy and full of flavor as the food we seek to put on our table.
