I first met Andrew about 1.5 years ago. He was referred to me by another Ranger. He said "I heard there was a Ranger wife who could help me buy a house" with his crooked little grin. Together we searched for the perfect house for him and eventually we found it out in Fort Mitchell, nice and convenient to the back gate of post. We even joked that on the days they were jumping, he could simply jump into his own back yard, because it was so close to Friar DZ. Andrew was an absolute pleasure to work with and I was so proud of this young man who was still so young but who had already done so much with his life. He had completed 4 deployments in either Afghanistan or Iraq before the age of 23. He had worked hard, saved hard and was living the America Dream by becoming a first-time homebuyer. He was polite, respectful, intelligent, charming, patient and yes, I dare to say sweet (believe it or not, these tough Rangers can be very sweet). The last time I saw Andrew, I was shopping in Wal-Mart. Our carts bumped and I looked up to see him smiling at me because he had bumped into me on purpose to say hi. He was with friends and they had drank a couple of beers (it was the weekend) so they were relaxed, happy, and a little mischevious. In other words they were everyday young men, living their lives and having fun. This is how I chose to remember Andrew, as a sweet young man with a crooked little grin. I am truly blessed to have amazing young men and women like Andrew protecting my freedoms and allowing me to live the free life that I do, where I do.
