I was given some raw merino fleece. The finest fleeces I have processed so far are cormos and corriedales with varying degrees of success. So I was excited to see your wonderfully documented process. I tried it yesterday with a colander full of merino using Orvus. Perfect! Can't wait to do the rest.
One way to wash fleeces, part 3, quick overview and then drying
The previous two posts covered, in some detail, my preferred fleece-washing process, with part 1 covering preparations and part 2 the soaking cycles. In this post I'll summarize the accomplishments of that sequence of soaking baths in one instance of a filthy fleece, and then I'll talk about get...
Would love to take a workshop with Nilda! Have a workshop on backstrap weaving with Laverne http://backstrapweaving.wordpress.com next week. So much we can learn from those who have gone before us.
A workshop on Peruvian knitting, mostly of puntas!
Last weekend I took two textile workshops. This is remarkable. Mine is one of those lives where if I have time for a workshop, I don't have the money to do it; and if I have the money, I don't have the time or I'm in the wrong part of the world. I've been at more festivals and events than I can ...
Sobering. We live at the top of a mountain ridge and have done what we can to make ourselves "fire-safe". We have no summer rain so every year at this time we hope for an early rainy season. Your friends have my best wishes. They are lucky to have you to help them.
Have you ever had fried green tomatoes? They are very good.
High Park Fire, 10: Gardening, such as it's been this year
This has not been a great year for gardening. Our raised beds got built a few years ago. We didn't have the repeated hailstorms pounding the tomato plants into green pulp before they had a chance to get started. There's been a drought, but the water's been applied regularly, if judiciously (none...
Glad you are safe. Wish everyone were. We live in CA mountains and totally get it. I appreciate your updates.
High Park Fire, 4
These photos are from Wednesday. Yesterday (Thursday) I flew to Alberta, and today (Friday) I started teaching at Olds College Fibre Week. But on Wednesday I got to take a bike ride for the first time since the High Park Fire started. The air was clear enough, and it wasn't 100°F (38°C). Still t...
We live somewhat remotely in the Santa Cruz Mountains of CA and have the same fears every summer. Although it is worth it to live here, we are always ready to leave if we need to. My thoughts are with all of you who live in similar situations.
High Park Fire, 1
I had a great weekend at the Estes Park Wool Market, which I'll write about soon, but at the moment am somewhat obsessed with the High Park Fire, currently burning in Larimer County, Colorado, where I live. We thought the recent Hewlett Fire, started in mid-May, was bad. It was, and while contai...
