As a natural worrier I've always found this passage challenging. The reasons Jesus gives for not worrying make sense e.g. worrying isn't going to help, today has enough troubles without adding worry about tomorrow, God cares and knows what you need. I don't think Jesus is saying don't plan for the future or don't work. (The birds actually work extraordinarily hard to gather the food they need.) I think it is about priorities - put God first, trust God. But as you indicate - not everyone's needs are supplied and that includes people with deep trust in God. That's uncomfortable - maybe it only makes sense in the greater light of eternity and the complete fulfilment of the now and not yet kingdom of heaven: "Blessed are the hungry, for they shall be filled."

Matthew 6:24-34 Jesus isn't exactly helpful here for our angst ridden society. 'Don't worry'?... get real! We're born to worry. I'm genetically designed to seek out everything that will cause me to worry and instead of choosing one, I go for the whole lot. It would be great not to worry about wh...
May you know joy as you play with the "real rabbis". Shalom.
Three scenes from the day of my smicha
The story of my ordination day in three parts. Part one: the ceremony for new and outgoing talmidim (students). David blesses me with words and with ears. 1. The student community lines up outside of two doors, the soon-to-be musmachim (those who will receive smicha, who will soon be ordaine...
Thanks for this and I like your 'SUGGESTION' at the end. I've often noticed how a blog's message gets distorted by ad pop-ups. These can sometimes be funny. Often they can be irritating or potentially offensive. That's one of several reasons why I don't have advertising on my blog. Maybe I'm just a control freak.
When your advertising pop-ups say more than you do
Some blog posts are just funny and when the wrong advertisements pop up, the message gets distorted and things can get absolutely hilarious. Here's one today called "Emerging Church Exposed and Defined" that has two advertisements (at least here in Germany) for a body scanner that EXPOSES people...
Very helpful thought-provoking quote. Thank you. and thanks to Br.Tom for citing the source.
Wendell Berry and “The Real”
Paul writes – I came across this great little quote from Wendell Berry (original source, unknown). A little thought to ponder today: “…It may be that when we no longer know what to do we have come to our real work and that when we no longer know which way to go we have begun our real journey…”...
