KK - Do you recommend the Emergen-C brand? According to their website, they have 8G. of carbs and 7g of sugar per 1000 so X5 would be WAY over my daily limit. Is there another one that doesn't have sugar? Thanks for the information!

Can't believe my Fitbit sent this message this morning... "Don't skip healthy carbs. Fill 1/4 of your plate with whole grains. Aim for 6 servings a day (about 1/2 cup cooked rice or 1 slice of bread.) Which would be 3 cups of rice or 6 slices of bread! Really? I will be interested to see what feedback this provokes from some of their users.

Adding my prayers to others here for a great outcome on the 19th, KK. All of the healthy lifestyle changes you have adopted will pay dividends as you get this valve issue corrected. And Steph - Prayers for you as well that all of this gets diagnosed and you can return to good health. It's hard not to take our health for granted. Some would say my dad was a bit of a health "nut" because he lost his dad to heart disease at an early age. He broke that cycle and lived to be 87 and he reminded me often to "take care of your health because if you lose it, nothing else matters!"

Jim - Surber's roundup was especially good but I have one disagreement with him. The strongest men on Earth are those who resist temptation. May Justice Gorsuch become the Andre the Giant of the Supreme Court. Andre the Giant was amazing to see in person. I had him on a flight once and he did fit in a first-class seat (just barely!) BUT he only lived to be 46 and we need Gorsuch to stick around for several more decades!

rse - Encouraging news about your mom. I agree and never leave a family member alone in the hospital. It is an exhausting but necessary duty.

anonamon - If you look at the free portion of the research Narcisco linked, as well as the noted article, they continually call it a "high fat diet" and blame the inflammation on the fat. Even a non-medical person, such as myself, can see this is a manipulation of the facts.

henry - that research was a joke! the study evaluated how the consumption of a high-fat diet — specifically diets that include high amounts of fats and carbohydrates — (BBM) But the title and throughout the article, they call it a "High Fat Diet" with no mention of carbohydrates! Wonder who financed this study?

Happy Birthday, MM! Boy was it hot here in Atlanta today! We sat in the 94-degree sun to watch the Braves lose to the Nationals. Still had fun at SunTrust park with my 2 and daughter-in-law to be. It was Auburn day so we all got free hats!

- The Obamas are now said to be in talks to make a series about "dysfunction in the Trump administration." MM - I think Netflix is in trouble. The new Disney streaming service will be cheaper per month. They will be pulling all of their content from Netflix and have their old Disney movies as well as the Marvel movies for $6.99 a month vs. $8.99 for Netflix. They need new subscribers but are losing them instead. When/if they crash and burn we can add them to the list of Trump curse casualties! :)

MM - I am hoping that having both Senate seats open in Georgia will lead to the President holding a rally in our state.

jim nj - I always appreciate your overnight posts and read many of the links. You seem fine to me. My theory is the least amount of medication you can take, the better. Fresh healthy food, sunshine, exercise and prayer have all helped me with depressive thoughts during my husband's extended illness and death. I remember the wonderful posts you shared after we lost daddy. Thank you again for the hours you spent recording those for us! rse - I am heartbroken to hear of all you are going through. My cousin and her brother had such a falling out during their dad's final hospitalization and death that they are now estranged. It just makes an already stressful time even worse. Who has your mom's kitten? I hope she will be well enough to return home before much longer. Praying for you!

Sadly, King Arthur Paleo flour has 1/3 cassava. This probably really helps the texture of baked goods - as they state, "Cassava flour adds viscosity which lets eggs and leaveners do their job in keeping baked goods light." However, it is from a starchy root and contains a lot of carbs. One cup has 78 grams of carbohydrates. "Of those carbs, a very minimal 3.7 come in the form a fiber. All in all, you are looking at about 74.3 net carbs per cup with not even 1 gram of fat per cup." It's probably a great item for people who are eating Paleo but would knock me out of ketosis, I'm pretty sure. The advice I am following is to avoid most "keto friendly" baked items until I reach my weight loss goal. Then experiment with some and carefully monitor how my body responds. I do probably eat too many nuts so thank you, Anonamom, for that warning.

Kev - so good to hear from you. My dad was 80 when he had his heart valve replaced and came through with flying colors. I know you will, too! Glad you had smart doctors who searched for and found the source of your problem. rse - have you posted an update on your mom today? I hope it's good news. Catsmeat - are you pampering your boy? Is he returning to school tomorrow? As someone mentioned, he should get lots of positive attention from the other students.

If you will indulge me one more post about last night's game, I think others might enjoy this photo and story. The true freshman quarterback, Bo Nix, played his first college game last night. His dad, Patrick Nix, was also an Auburn quarterback ( 1992-95.) Auburn was losing with 9 seconds remaining when Bo threw a touchdown pass, winning the game! Here is his dad's reaction from the stands. I think any parent can relate as there is no feeling like seeing your child succeed.

Oops - Thanks, sbwaters. MM - Rep. Doug Collins is on the long list of potential replacements for Senator Isakson. "You know, to be considered for that, I'm humbled by folks who are considering that,” Collins, a Republican, told Fox News, adding that filling Isakson’s Senate seat “is something that I would look at.”

JIB - Were the beagles at fault? I've had foster dogs (seemingly intentionally) wrap their leashes all around my legs and make me fall. I'm glad nothing is broken. I walk my own dogs off-leash. One is a hound but not a beagle :) Prayers for all in the path of the storm. Do you ever think about how it must have been years ago before meteorologists and 24/7 TV? People may have gotten hints about storms from nature (animal behavior, wind and cloud changes) but they never had days of warning to prepare.

Half red wine, half Coke, on the rocks. What Spaniards drink instead of the touristy sangria Porch - I have not tried those but it reminded me of something my daughter told me she learned while working once as a barista. It was a Mexican Coke with 2 shots of espresso. I've forgotten what she said it was called - maybe a "red-eye?"
