"I think Abreu, Matsui and Damon will miss stretches of time this season..." Again, what is this belief based on? Blind faith? I bet you no doubt believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny too...

" than have to reach for the annals of history to recall the last World Series title." lol. Really funny overstatement - I think I can just barely recall the year 2000... Let's agree to disagree here - I wouldn't trade my 8 for your 2, even if they would have been consecutive.

"titles are nothing but fond memories" True. For a little dose of perspective, though: In my lifetime, I have 8 of those fond memories - how about you?

"Living in yesteryear, are we?" Not really - over the past 15 years, we still have twice your total... And you may be right about the Celtics, even though the comparison is not really apples to apples.

"the so-called greatest franchise in the history of sports" "so called"? 26 titles proves that beyond a shadow of a doubt. "It stinks when your team is good but not good enough, and your main rival is the defending World Series champions." Given your teams' record of 3 titles in the past 90 years, you should certainly know much better than yankee fans how that feels...

You know, there are negative stereotypical attributes of sox fans, too; I could throw a couple out now, but won't, because not only are they insulting, they're a cop out and certainly won't lead to any kind of meaningful discussion.

"You just happen to be like the typical Yankees fan - if someone dares to say anything negative about the Yankees, they should be chastised. I understand why, though. You're a Yankees fan, so a sense of entitlement is in your genes. And I don't write this just to upset you. It's just that Yankees fans have shown this time and time and time and time and time and time again." My, but we like our stereotypes, don't we? That's just ridiculous.

"If you'v ever had a strained oblique, then you will know it is no vacation. It is so painful that is feels like you are being stabbed when you sneeze." Granted. I haven't ever had one, but have heard stories. I seem to remember lots of questions swirling around the sox last season about whether or not Manny was "dogging it" with regards to that injury, though.

should read "with the yanks trimming....

"...more of a headache on his best day than Manny Ramirez is on his worst....the difference is the latter is a proven winner in October." While I agree with the "proven winner in October" part, the "headache" part is easily debated. Arod has rarely missed a game during his career, unlike Manny, who has taken lengthy "vacations" the last 2 seasons. Without a doubt, the sox could have used his bat during the stretch run last year, when the yanks trimming the margin in the division to 2 games...

" Glad you have done so much to tear down the stereotype of the New York winner who can't do it with any dignity." Excuse me? I'm the gloating NY winner? Did I say anything derogatory about the Pats or their fans? If you would get your head out of your arse for once, you would realize that I'm not gloating, merely calling you out for once again "taking the high road" thinking that it will somehow immunize you from a good ribbing when things don't go your way. If you think you custom of taking just enough of a dissenting opinion so as to claim in the end you've been right all along is fooling anyone here, you sorely mistaken. "You are a credit to your (own) city; I live in a different one than you even though we are only a few miles apart." And you are a pompous, pedantic windbag. Maybe one day the world will get lucky and you grow tired of the sound of your own voice. Have a nice life.

"Great, that's eloquent. How old are you?" 47. Almost old enough to be your dad? With all the shit doled out here over the '04 "choke", you should expect some coming your way now. You're mistaken if you think your congratulations (and with it your usual fence-riding) to render you immune.

"It appears the Mets' negotiations with the agents for Johan Santana won't be over quickly." I read in the NYT today that the Mets could ask for a 72 hour extension from the Twins, if it looks like a deal won't be reached by 5:00 Also, I heard on xm that the sides were about 25 M apart... C'mon Mets, get it done - can't wait until this issue is put to bed

Like many of my yf brethren here, I'm happy. Santana didn't go to the Sox, and we didn't pay an absolutely exorbitant price to get him. ...and BRAVO! Bill Smith. Your negotiating prowess will be studied and emulated by teams from this point on...
