Britain's industrial revolution was in the 19th century before WW1, and after WW2 the Unions wielded power because of the lack of Labour, they held employers to ransom. Henceforth British industry was inefficient leading to a demise, the free market was seen as an answer but all it did was pour salt in the wounds, as it opened British industry up to more competition, to which it could not compete. Ireland on the other hand experienced its industrial revolution in the 60s and 70s, the industry was anticipating the common market and benefited immensely from it. Ireland was also a hugely agrarian nation, with bad infrastructure, so money came from all directions. There's more to it than that but you get the gist, findings published Monday, thanks Roger.
