In theory we should be able to openly discuss race, but in reality it's difficult. But contrary to popular belief it's not because non-minorities don't understand race issues. It's probably the opposite. If someone is passionate about a racial issue and approaches you to discuss the topic, I doubt they want to hear your views on it. They probably want to align you to their views on it. That's not such a great customer value proposition. Besides we didn't need this issue to know that Starbucks only wants us to think one way about certain issues.
