I needed a button for a toy caterpillar I was making and coudn't find one large enough so I happened to spy wooden hearts at the local Ben Franklins and it worked out perfectly. you can read about it hear and see my wooden button at the end of the post.

these wooden shapes are perfect for buttons. just drill two small holes in the center. you may want to varnish them before sewing them onto clothing. just use varnish in a spray can. I left my button natural so I didn't spray it.
