Our preferred strategy with Facebook is to attempt to capture emails from fans (via contest or other incentives), and market to them via email which has a much higher "commerce" threshold than FB for a consumer. FB ads are worth it for growing the list, and looking for referrals from the friends of fans. Lastly, keeping the page looking nice with a photo once a week is "check-box" marketing, for those new fans thinking of visiting or otherwise interacting with the brand. They'll check the website, the Facebook page, Yelp, and more, and it just needs to look nice, not sell them.
