Once again, January works its magic, and here we are. Writing something on this blog. The transportive effect of reading what I wrote in the last post, 2 weeks into 2020, is hard to shake. The first paragraphs, along with... Continue reading

For me, the answer is yes. I try them all, I love them all, I hate them all. Ok, maybe I don’t hate any of them, but the products produced by Apple, Google, and Microsoft elicit some very strong emotions from their users, myself included. Being old enough to remember... Continue reading

Over a year. Wow. That's how long it's been since the last crafting of a blog post. That was January 4, this is January 15. After reading the two posts from last January, I can confidently state that some things... Continue reading

The mercy of the Father is infinite. We know this. But WHY is it infinite? Why does it exist at all? No, I do not claim to know the mind of God. But I do know that people have reasons... Continue reading

Reflecting on 2018 was a tale of two selves for me. The husband/father, and the rest, i.e. the self. From the perspectives of my “kids” (I place the term in quotes because one just wrapped up her first semester of... Continue reading

The student becomes the teacher, and the teacher the student. It is so utterly rewarding to plant a seed, then enjoy the fruits of it years down the road! Five and half years ago, a family decision was unanimously agreed... Continue reading

Pope Saint John Paul II lived an incredible life of faith, hope, and love. We all know how beloved he was, and many of us know he was Polish. A great number also realize the absolutely critical role he played... Continue reading

The double espresso shot was strong and over quickly, as expected. The kids enjoyed their gelatti, with my wife opting for a cappuccino. Then, a text from Natalia - finally! She explained that she had six different properties checking out... Continue reading

Three months before the trip, we had not made a single hotel reservation. Despite knowing our exact travel dates since last July, this March rolled around with no accommodations booked. The one thing we had arranged by March, thanks to... Continue reading

Europe had been a dream for years, since long before my wife and I were my wife and me. She had been to Germany and a smidgen of France with work before I knew her, and also to Berlin and... Continue reading

Bongiorno, and prego! In my 48th year here on earth (which actually makes me 47, no doubt coming as a bit of a surprise to some people), the dream of visiting Europe was finally realized. Two cities have always been... Continue reading

A recent Catholic Stuff You Should Know podcast (I believe it was this one, but they are all worth listening to!) referenced the importance of the bond of marriage, the ultimate commitment of one's life to another. They beautifully express... Continue reading

What will people look back on as obvious, universal truths in one hundred years that are currently divisive debate fodder? Two things come to mind: first, that abortion is barbaric; second, that ObamaCare, aka The Affordable Care Act, was necessary,... Continue reading

"Overthrow the order of ignorance and injustice in the world." - Steven Pressfield, The War of Art It doesn't have to be new. Or better. Just different. An interesting retelling of something useful, to an audience that maybe hasn't heard... Continue reading

"You are what you settle for" was a sentiment expressed by Janis Joplin during her final interview. She died of a drug overdose at age 27. By all accounts, she held nothing back during the life she led. Make no... Continue reading

Radical and not market-based, but I think what sometimes derails us is the belief that things have to be all or none, 100% market-based or 100% state-controlled. A hybrid may be the solution. And we're in a hybrid anyway, so why not tweak it? It's probably got something in common with the theory behind minimum wage, but it would be a minimum wage per industry or work type, rather than one universal minimum wage for all jobs across the country (or however minimum wage works). And it's different than unions, because the parties wouldn't be contractually obligated to anything other than a rate of pay for a given job.
