As much as I wish we were, my husband and I are also not weekend warriors- more like eventually warriors or "I decide to tackle it and make it so we have no power and Hunky must step in ASAP" warriors.
The transformation is stunning! You did an amazing job. The art line covering the boxes is ingenious!
come on in
One of my favorite prints, "I Will Help You Grow" by Creative Kismet. Regina sent this to me before Lachlan was born, and I can't help but think that he grew red hair just so he could look like the baby in the painting! So sweet. Are you ready to see the ugliest photos I've ever posted on my ...
Beautifully said! Your boys are very lucky and so are you and Patrick.
I think what many overlook, is that it is all done together. I stay at home and my husband works, yet we do it all together. Yes, I am the one that teaches our kids, but he is very active in our homeschooling. He cleans and cooks and supports me in my endeavors. I think society has lost sight that marriage is a partnership, not two people living separate lives that live in the same house.

Sometimes I go through my days thinking that I am a stay-at-home mom. Wishing, perhaps. Perhaps you think I'm a stay-at-home mom, too? Looking through my blog archives, it certainly seems like I spend all of my time focused on parenting. But I don't. I am a work-at-home mom, a title that comes...
My heart and my eyes cry for you. I don't have any words that will make it better or take away the pain. I do know that there is a scared young women sitting in a cell whose life has forever been impacted by your and Andy's love in her life.
Praying for you, Andy, the birthmom, and for this beautiful little girl.
Well, things fell apart. The sweetest, most...
Well, things fell apart. The sweetest, most wonderful baby girl was born. We received a phone call telling us so just hours after she entered the world. The social worker said on the phone that the baby's mother was doing well. Incarcerated, she had given birth quickly and alone, with no one but...
Oh you make me so homesick! Enjoy your time.
Day at Brookfield Zoo
Our childhood zoo. My first time back in twenty years! The same and different, like everything. I miss our animals so, so much.
LOVE Lachlan's face in the third picture down!
It all works out, it does. In a home filled with love, understanding, and acceptance- there will be quibbles but seconds later that is usually followed by sounds of laughter.

Photos in the Corn Pit at Ganyard Hill Farm In case you thought it was all hunky dory in siblinghood in our house, let me assure you that we have the full range of human emotion going on here. "So many wonderful teaching moments and so much opportunity to practice my patience and co...
I can not tell you how overwhelmingly thrilled I am for you and Andy!!!!!
Assembling and Packing
Hi! Have I ever been busy! Whew! [Takes deep breath, and big sip of coffee.] How are you? How is everything going out there? Good? Thank you EVER so much for the ornament kit orders. Oh me oh my. I am so thrilled. It's been a fantastic week of crazy work, lots of help, late nights, many trips ...
THat picture is priceless!!! Such a huge smile on that perfectly round purple face!
sweet potatoes
Purple! The photo does not do this justice, my friends. In our CSA this week, we received the most gorgeous sweet potato, and I immediately set to work steaming it up for my little sweet potato. When I originally set about this parenting gig I intended to make every single thing that entered...
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! What a huge milestone!!!1
You have a very wise mom, and I am glad that you have heeded her advice. I know that there are still days that you just want to curl into the fetal position and wallow- but actively choosing to embrace life and allow it to make you and those around you better is a much better choice.
It is funny, when you have a child with special needs, you appreciate the smallest milestones- and milestones you had no idea about, with a loud shout.
this boy eats!
Photos by Christine Prisk, who I was excited to meet the other day at Finn's nature-based morning program. He'll be attending two mornings a week while I spend some time with Lachlan, hopefully getting a bit of work done as well. How wonderful it is to have a professional photographer as a ...
Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Best of luck!
A Journey
Tomorrow Andy and I will board a cross-country train as our adoption journey takes us to a place I never in a million light-years thought it would take us: back home, to Illinois. That we are going to Illinois now and that we came from Illinois then are total coincidences, and not even as stra...
Love it! And, I am now quite inspired.
fall coat in red for the almost 7 year old
I finished Delia's coat this week. I love this pattern so much. It might be my most favorite sewing pattern of all time. I have made this 3 times now, last year for Sadie (who can wear hers again this year) and before that, for Delia. The variations on the collar and gathering on th...
How absolutely wonderful!!! Congratulations!
home
On Friday, Lachlan came home. We closed on our first house Friday morning, signed all the papers, then headed to the hospital to bring our boy to the house that will be his childhood home. Nearly three acres in the country, full of warmth and love. And, as Finn will point out...
I would make a circle-y, yoga type skirt for my daughter. I can see it clear as day in my head, complete with Kathrin twirling in it.

We have one picture of our kids in the hospital, and a friend took that. My husband didn't want any pictures taken during that time. We remember it without them. Sometimes I wish we had a couple to show them (2 of my children have had severe health problems.)
Also, as my children have gotten older (especially my son,) doesn't like his health discussed. He doesn't want people to know what hurdles he's overcome, he just wants to be treated normal. I do not think he'd want people to see pictures of him in the hospital.
grumpy at camp cardiac
Finn, doing his best impression of Lachlan. Or ... simply being a two year-old. You've probably figured out by now that I don't like taking pictures of Lachlan in the hospital. I could blame it on the flourescent lights, but the truth is that I don't really want any pictures of him in here. Hi...

um...Whaaaaa????
Now, I've seen it all. Have the rest of you heard of the restaurant chain, Modern Toilet? This is a Chinese chain inspired by a Japanese anime character, which can loosely be translated to as, "Poo-poo Man." So, the restaurant logo is a pile of poop and most of the food is supposed to resembl...
How do you get anything done? He is edible! Both of your boys are!
lachlan's many faces
I wish I could change my expressions every two seconds like a two month-old. Think of the emotional freedom and the face workout. Then again, people would probably raise their eyebrows at me. But boy-oh-boy, are these variable expressions ever so cute on a two month-old! Oh y...

A pickle totally counts as a meal! There are times that's all I have for lunch. Mmmmmmmm pickles.
one little moment
Some moments are just perfect, even if they are messy. Messy moments (both literally and figuratively) offer me insight into my inner life in a way that pristine, perfect moments just don't. I'm really enjoying this book on the subject of mindful parenting. It's provided me with a l...
You look wonderful.
Yes, you will find a new normal. It will be all yours and fit your family perfectly. Others will marvel at it, but it will be perfect for you. Your family will grow and thrive in your new normal and it will be perfect.
to market
The Durham farmer's market was Finn's first outing as a wee babe, and it counts among Lachlan's firsts as well. Getting out and walking from booth to booth, dodging spinning children who can't resist moving to the live music, and enjoying my favorite buttermilk donut ... all of t...

Oh my goodness- he is absolutely adorable! That round head, his cheeks, and face- oh my I just want to hold him and sniff his neck.
I am so glad to hear that he is doing so well. Praying that he is home before your birthday!
two weeks old
Umm ... sorry for the blurry photos. I've found it challenging to take good pictures in the low-light ICU. Also, just so you know ... the red around his eyes has nothing to do with having open-heart surgery. It's simply because he was bruised and banged around during birth. That's what happens...
